The Legacy of Mavis Scott
The Mavis Scott Foundation was established to honour the life and values of Mavis Scott — a woman whose dedication to service, community, and the upliftment of those around her left an enduring mark on all who knew her.
She believed that no one should go without the basics of dignity — food, education, and community. She spent decades quietly serving those around her, never asking for recognition, never keeping score.
Through her daughter Trisan and a community of committed volunteers, the Foundation continues her legacy by reaching families across Jamaica with practical help, education, and hope.

The Mavis Scott Legacy Foundation was never just an idea , it was a promise I made to my grandmother, even though we never had the chance to meet.
My grandmother, Mavis Scott, passed away at just 34 years old, leaving behind seven young children. Her life ended long before she had the opportunity to see her family grow or the generations that would follow. As the years passed, her story became one that fewer people remembered. Outside of those who loved her most, her name slowly faded with time.
I often found myself asking a simple question: What happens when someone who meant everything to a family is gradually forgotten by the world?
I realized I couldn't change how long my grandmother lived, but I could change how long she would be remembered.
That realization became the foundation of this organization.
The Mavis Scott Legacy Foundation exists not only to serve communities, but to ensure that the name Mavis Scott continues to live with purpose. Every programme we launch, every child we empower, every family we support, and every act of kindness carried out through this Foundation is written in her honour. Through service, her name continues to reach places she never had the opportunity to see and people she never had the chance to meet.
For me, this work is deeply personal. It is about transforming remembrance into action and grief into purpose. It is about proving that a life does not have to be long to be meaningful, and that the truest measure of a legacy is not how many years we are given, but how many lives continue to be changed because we lived.
My greatest hope is that generations from now, children and families will know the name Mavis Scott—not because of the tragedy of her passing, but because her legacy became a source of hope, opportunity, compassion, and lasting change.
This Foundation is my commitment to ensuring that her story is never lost to time. It is my way of saying that while death may have ended her life, it did not end her purpose.
I couldn't change how long my grandmother lived, but I can help ensure that her name is etched into generations yet to come. That is the legacy I am committed to building—one life, one family, and one community at a time.
